I posted last month to explain why I had voted against the planning application for two new student halls of residence on Windmill Road, at the entrance to Mattocks Close - http://www.stephentall.org.uk/news/000539.html - at the North East area committee. I am delighted to say that this view was overwhelmingly upheld this week by the City Council's central planning committee.

Here are the official reasons why:

***

5. APPLICATIONS 06/2539/FUL AND 06/2540/FUL - 49 STUDENT ROOMS AT 88 AND 90 WINDMILL ROAD AND 1A MATTOCK CLOSE (CALL-IN)

Application 06/2539/FUL refused on the following grounds: -

  • Adverse impact on the balance of dwelling types and the residential character of the area

  • Over development and increased density of use

  • Noise nuisance from students travelling to and from the site

Application 06/2540/FUL refused on the following grounds: -

  • Adverse impact on the balance of dwelling types and the residential character of the area

  • Over development and increased density of use

  • Noise nuisance from students travelling to and from the site

  • Overbearing blank wall facing Mattock Close

  • Poor design unrelated to residential character of the area
